Welcome to British ORT - 130 Years of Jewish Education
For 130 years, ORT has been educating people in the skills they needed to gain employment. Currently, over 250,000 students, in 56 countries are educated by ORT every year. Please spend a couple of minutes on our website, look at our past projects, and find out more about what we do. British ORT believes that a strong Jewish people requires strong Jewish communities, and that such communities can, and should, help to support the weaker members of society.
We are part of the World ORT network, the largest Jewish education and training charity in the world, which helps vulnerable people in 56 countries to become economically independent through the provision of education and vocational skills training. An ORT education gives our students the skills they need to gain meaningful employment, and thus to support themselves, their families and their communities. ORT believes that teaching our communities to be confident in their future and in their heritage gives them the power, and the confidence, to help themselves and others. ORT International Cooperation projects support poor and developing countries and communities, using Jewish skills, money and expertise, giving our fellow citizens a positive experience of Israel, Jews and the Jewish Community. We believe that an independent, knowledgeable and proud Jewish community is one which can survive into the future, and that such a community is an asset, not only to that country, but to the world as a whole. Together, we can help strengthen the Jewish people not just for today, but for next month, next year and generations to come.
